Flying Scotsman crash: services cancelled as safety checks carried out
The famous train was involved in the crash which resulted in two people being taken to hospital.
news.stv.tvThe Flying Scotsman is a historic steam locomotive that has been undergoing restoration. Network Rail initially raised concerns about the locomotive's ability to undertake weekend tours of the Borders and Fife due to compatibility issues with current railway infrastructure, requiring separate engineering assessments. An investigation was planned to determine why these issues weren't identified earlier. Fortunately, the National Railway Museum found no mechanical fault with the engine and restoration-led services were able to resume. The locomotive is known for its iconic status as a symbol of British rail heritage, and its continued operation is a result of meticulous restoration efforts. The Flying Scotsman resumes its services on certain routes, including the York-Leeds route, where restoration-led services have resumed with the locomotive.
