Rescue teams now warn the area has dangerous, powerful currents that can sweep people under. A local resident said a recent drowning nearby made him send out a safety alert. Police also think a second girl might be unaccounted for from the same spot. In Maine, a lobsterman said his dog pulled a trapped seagull out of the water. Out in Los Angeles, a well-known face was spotted socializing with friends. In North Carolina, a crowded dog adoption event drew families for the holiday.
