His preseason opportunity comes after Iraola’s first match in charge saw Liverpool beat Sunderland with a score of 4-2 in Nashville. Sunderland, freshly lost to by Liverpool, now appears as a likely loan option for Koumas. The young joined Sunderland’s training camp this week but may face stiff competition for playing time from other club players. Iraola started his tenure on July 24, 2026, with Koumas one of several academy products pushing for bigger involvement in the first team.
