The Minnesota Lynx topped the Golden State Valkyries twice in late August. Minnesota won 77-66 on Aug. 19. The teams met again Aug. 24 at Target Center. Minnesota held the top seed. They had not lost to Golden State yet. Courtney Williams missed the game. Her right foot had an injury. Without Williams in action, Minnesota failed to get the top seed in that contest.
