2013: Introduction of the National Disability Insurance Scheme
www.nma.gov.authe scheme has been an Australian government program since 2013 to fund reasonable and necessary supports for people under 65 with significant and permanent disability administered under the NDIS Act 2013, overseen by the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission. Supports include Core, Capacity Building, and Capital supports, aiming to improve independence, participation, and access to assistive technology or home modifications. It covers disability-related equipment and services, not basic living expenses, and intends to help participants pursue wellbeing, housing, employment, education, and social relationships to support planning and access to services via participant-centered funding.
