Freedom Report Freedom in the World 2026 says 54 countries saw worsening in political rights and civil liberties in 2025. The report further notes 35 countries showed progress. Only 21 percent globally is where countries are rated Free, down from 46 percent. Over two decades it reached 46 percent. The report warns increasing threats and reprisals linked to political speech created repression effect on nonviolent expression.
