The remnants of Tropical Storm Rachel tore through Las Vegas on October 12, transforming roads into rushing waterways and setting a new rainfall record for the city. Southern Nevada was the most affected area, with flash floods shutting down streets across the west valley.

Despite the heavy rain, Lake Mead levels saw little change. Rachel also battered California beaches and homes. Flood risk across the southwestern U.S. has since eased. Separate storms linked to Rachel killed five people in Mexico.
