Strong shaking spread fast. Tsunami warnings went up at once. Mexico and Guatemala faced alerts for large waves. Coastal residents moved quickly to higher ground. Aftershocks continued, some strong. The biggest aftershock reached 5.0. No big damage or injuries were reported yet. Homes and streets stayed quiet in Chiapas and nearby areas. Tsunami alerts stayed up for hours. They were later lowered as seas stayed calm.
